Q. How do I write my profile?

Q. Can you give me some ideas in creating a good profile?

A. Of course…Always include at least one photo. Think about when you look at profiles and there’s no photo, don’t you feel inclined to quickly move on? Profiles without photo’s make people wary.

Create a catchy headline for your profile, perhaps something to make people smile. Let your personality shine through.

Think of your personal ad as an advertisement for yourself. The goal is to draw people in with your headline and keep the reader's attention by writing an interesting description of yourself.

The headline needs to be catchy enough to get someone's attention in just a few words. You can easily do this by using keywords that best sum up your personality. If you have a sense of humour it should show in your headline.

There's no need to include details about yourself such as your age since that information is listed separately. It's also important not to say anything that makes you sound desperate like these examples:

Lonely Guy/Girl
Sick of being single
Desperate for love
Tired of Looking

Now let's talk about the Description for your ad. This is your chance to say in your own words what you're about. It's not enough to answer a bunch of generic questions. So GO FOR IT. Let your personality show and don't hold back. Keep in mind there are hundreds of profiles just like yours that say the same things. So say something to stand out from the crowd and make the reader curious to find out more about you. Talk about things that are interesting to you and stay away from clichés.

And please, please avoid making up things about yourself. You're only wasting your time and someone else's by being dishonest. We suggest writing enough to convey what you're about but not revealing everything about yourself initially. A good rule of thumb is to keep your description within 200-300 words.

Write as much as you want in the “Message” box. This is where you describe yourself, your likes and dislikes, hobbies, your work or business, where you’ve travelled, where you’d like to travel. The more you write about you and your life the more people learn about you.

Perhaps start with a word document and type single words and then expand on them. Make it lively and easy to read.

A. Go to "My Information" and select "Amend Registration"

A. Select “My Information” on your home page and then, on the next page, select “Delete Me.”

Using The Features

Q. Where will I find my favourites?

A. After logging in you’ll find the link “My Favourites.” Click on it and you’ll find them listed.

Q. What is search?

A. Searching allows you to select the attributes you would like in your partner. There is the basic search and the advanced search. This page is accessed by the “Search” button at the top of the page or the “My Search” link on your home page.

There are several criteria upon which you can search. These include the advertisers age, country of residence, body type, sex and whether the profile includes a photo. If you are a male seeking a female then search for 'Women seeking Men'.

If you wish to see only profiles with photos tick the 'Photo Ads Only' box. You can quickly move through the regions box by pressing the '-' (dash) on your keyboard.

If you wish to find an individual member, you may type their username directly into the 'Username' text box and click search.

Q. How do I send an email?

A. Select “My Mailbox” on your home page and on the next page select “Compose Message.”

Q. How do I check my emails?

A. Select “My Mailbox” on your home page and the next page will show any emails sent to you.

Q. How can I block another member?

A. Select My Mailbox on your home page and on the new page you’ll see the heading Block Sender. The member will receive a message advising a block is in place.

Q. Can I unblock a member?

A. Yes. Select My Mailbox and on that page select My Block List. On that page you delete the block.

Q. What do I do if I receive a message I find offensive? Should I inform you?

A. Absolutely! We suggest you block the member from contacting you again (see the previous question) and if you are concerned about the message send us an email with the relevant text.  We do not want offensive behaviour from members of SilverSurfersDating and depending on the situation one option we will consider is removing their profile and banning them from rejoining. In an extreme case we would report them to the police in their country.

Q. What is match-mail?

A. Match-mail is our automatic process which e-mails you with new members who match the search selections that you have made. You need only do this once unless you wish to change the search criteria.

Q. As a free member what features can I use?

A. Features available for free members are: searching member profiles, placing a free profile of your own, uploading a profile photo and receiving messages from our paid members.

Other free members and paid members will be able to view your profile, and if you should receive an email or instant message from a paid member you may reply to that member for free. However, you cannot initiate emails or online communications to other members.

Our paid members can pay as little as GBP1.25 per week.

Q. How do I use instant messaging?

A. Login to the site and on the Welcome Page click on the link My Chatroom. A new window will open headed Userplane Webchat. This is the chatroom. In the top right of this window there is a Help section.

The chatroom is private for two people only and, therefore, not moderated.

Q. How do I use live video?

A. Login as above. You will see the video section at the bottom of the new window. Select V and then select allow in the small panel which appears. Close the panel and you now have video. Select A for audio and repeat. You don’t need to refer back to this answer as the panel will guide you.

Q. What are flirts?

A. A flirt is a message telling you another member would like to know you better. You receive an external mail from SilverSurfersDating advising that you have an email in your “My Mailbox” containing a message and a flirt.

Q. Are my details used by anyone else?

A. We do not pass your real name or email address to anyone. We do not sell email addresses, and you will receive our occasional newsletter only if you leave the box ticked when signing up. So your privacy is safeguarded and you will not be sent any junk email.
